

Most history books tend to dwell on the allied experience of the war, with tales of allied victories and exploits. Over the last few years, I’ve been lucky enough to be sent some wonderfully poignant, sometimes violent, stories and sentiments about the German side of the second world war. You’ll hear first-hand memoirs and memories of veterans connected to Dad’s war in some way – and much more. The aim of these podcasts is to give you the stories behind the story. I’m Paul Cheall, son of Bill Cheall, whose Second world war memoirs have been published by Pen and Sword – in FTFDTH. We were well aware that the gi’s were being led like lambs to the slaughter.
